“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

Scripture, liturgy, sacraments and Christian living

Intent

At St Mary’s, Religious Education helps children deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. Children explore important questions about life and learn to respond thoughtfully to religious teaching.

Implementation

Our Religious Education curriculum develops understanding of Scripture, the Church’s liturgical year, the sacraments and living as Christians. Children revisit important ideas and make connections as their knowledge grows.

Children study signs, symbols, prayer and the life of the Church. Discussion, reflection and varied activities help them make connections and explain their understanding.

The curriculum supports preparation for Reconciliation and Eucharist in Year 3 and Confirmation in Year 6. Links with parish life, worship and visits enrich children’s learning.

Impact

We aim for children to explain beliefs and practices with increasing understanding, use religious vocabulary thoughtfully and make connections between Scripture and Christian life. Children are encouraged to ask questions and reflect respectfully.
