"I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10)

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to delivering high-quality Relationships and Health Education (RHE) in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Our approach is fully aligned with the Department for Education (DfE) guidance, which can be accessed here:

Relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education - GOV.UK

To support the delivery of this important curriculum, St Mary’s is working in partnership with Ten:Ten Resources, a programme widely used across Catholic schools in England. The Life to the Full Plus programme has been approved by both the Catholic Education Service and the Birmingham Diocese to ensure it meets statutory requirements while remaining faithful to the teachings of the Church.

What is Life to the Full Plus?

Life to the Full Plus is our enhanced programme for Relationships and Health Education (RHE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE). It is designed to meet statutory requirements while reflecting our Catholic ethos.

What will children learn?

  • Respectful relationships and friendship
  • Health and well-being, including physical and mental health
  • Keeping safe, online and offline
  • Growing and changing, understanding body changes and emotions
  • Economic well-being and making good choices
  • Catholic understanding of love, family, and dignity of the person

Parents and carers are warmly invited to access the Life to the Full Parent Portal, where you can view lesson content, videos, and supporting materials. Please contact the school for login details and further information.

Ten Ten Resources | The new RSHE Statutory Guidance

The Department for Education has published new statutory guidance on relationships, sex and health education, which applies to schools in England, to be implemented in September 2026. The current guidelines will remain in place for the academic year 2025-26, so no immediate changes are required.

Our School’s Approach

We follow the Life to the Full Plus programme using two pathways to ensure age-appropriate learning:

  • EYFS: Pathway #3 – 1-year cycle over 3 terms
  • Years 1–6: Pathway #2 – 2-year cycle over 3 terms

This structure allows us to deliver the full curriculum in a way that supports children’s development at every stage.

Pupil Voice:
Yes, I like lessons when learn we belong Jesus. My favourite lesson was when we were drawing My Special Box – I had a rabbits, pizza and ice-cream- for all the things that you like. It helps me to understand that God wants us to pray Him and listen to Him in the night.  (Y1)

I like TEN:TEN you do lots of interesting things that I never knew before. I love learning because it is. Jesus heals the people and tells stories.  I’ve leant that Jesus loves everyone equally and that we are unique and it doesn’t matter if we have illness and Jesus loves even if we have done something wrong. My favourite lesson is being thankful and I liked it because we got to write things we are thankful for. One of those I wrote ‘I am thankful for everything I have in my life’.  (Y3)

Yes, I enjoy TEN:TEN lesson in school – I like learning about Jesus and how He tells us what to do in life through the Bible. We can apply the Bible to life.  I’ve learnt that we should treat everyone with respect and that people can go through changes and that we should always accept them.  The lessons teach us how can go through changes in puberty and how it’s just us becoming adults and growing up. It links to our faith because God will guide us so that we will end up as good adults .(Y5)
